P Is For Paul White
*Originally released September 2nd 2014*
Welcome to the world of Paul White! Steve and Doug dive deep into the varied and fascinating musical career of this artist from London, UK. The guys also talk about the stigma against women in rock, the line between genius and insanity, and various platforms musicians can release their work on.
Music featured this week:
The Punch Drummer - The Strange Dreams Of Paul White
Pride - Paul White & The Purple Brain
The Doldrums - Rapping With Paul White
1:22 - We did wind up having Kurtis Findlay come in! Check out our episode W Is For Weird Al Yankovic!
4:38 - You can read up more about the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards here.
27:45 - Doug was correct that it was not an original animation for the music video for \"Pride\" - it was from a film called \"The Fool of the World and The Flying Ship\" from 1990. Steve can be forgiven a little though, as the video is listed on One-Handed Music\'s YouTube channel as the official video.
34:38 - Steve\'s hunch was correct: \"The Doldrums\" samples heavily from the Chuck Jones animated \"Phantom Tollbooth\" adaptation.
47:39 - Ahu finally released her album \"Stellar\" in 2023.
50:27 - Interestingly, we can\'t find \"Another Goodbye\" anywhere at all anymore. Paul White scaled back his Soundcloud tracks to just four, and it\'s not on his Bandcamp either. YouTube also had no results. Bummer! As an aside, Steve also noticed that the same thing has happened to the track \"Carbon\" - looks like Mr. White has hidden away a bunch of his tracks.
Doug\'s Recommendations:
Another Goodbye - Soundcloud release
So Far Away - Versus The BBC / So Far Away [single]
Grimy Light - The Punch Drummer EP
Time Wars (Extended Version) - One Eye Open [EP]
The Doldrums - Rapping With Paul White
Steve\'s Recommendations:
Gentle Freak - Paul White & The Purple Brain
City Bright Lights - The Strange Dreams Of Paul White
Indigo Glow - Rapping With Paul White
