R Is For Roxy Music
*Originally released September 18th 2019*
Let\'s take a trip back to the 70\'s with this week\'s episode on Roxy Music. Steve and Doug are joined by local musician and parental figure Stuart Ferguson, who sheds some light on the music scene of the time. The guys look at the influence of Brian Eno, the transition to disco, and the fickle nature of music critics. Also is the first episode with Doug\'s segment \"6 Degrees From King Crimson\"!
Six Degrees From King Crimson:
Roxy Music -> Bryan Ferry -> King Crimson
Roxy Music -> Brian Eno -> Robert Fripp -> King Crimson
Music featured this week:
Love Is The Drug - Sirens
The Thrill Of It All - Country Life
More Than This - Avalon
Tara - Avalon
10:06 - We dive pretty deep in our episode L Is For Led Zeppelin!
10:25 - \"Tommy\", the concept album by The Who, was actually released in 1969
12:37 - The claim that Gary Numan is to be credited with the rise of hip hop is dubious but at least somewhat based in fact. Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa did incorporate a lot of synth-wave in New York clubs, including Numan.
28:34 - Actually, surprisingly Judi Dench sounds very much the same in her quick \"appearance\" in the track \"For Your Pleasure\".
1:03:11 - Check out Doug\'s placement of \"Same Old Scene\" on his list of 100 Favourite Songs
1:12:26 - Okay, recent is a bit of a stretch; it was from 2001. But here\'s the live version of \"Tara\" from their performance at The Apollo in London.
1:19:17 - Here\'s the clip from the Red Dwarf episode \"Psirens\" where Phil Manzanera plays the hands of Dave Lister.
